Yahweh Rophe / Jehovah Rapha

He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

Exodus 15:26

You spent hours praying that God would heal your grandmother. Everyone prayed that your baby’s heart would be healed. You prayed to be healed from the latest illness going around. I prayed that God would heal my mom of cancer. Sometimes we don’t get the answer that we want. Sometimes God chooses to heal a person for life here on earth, other times He heals them completely by taking them to Heaven. (Of course there are other times that God allows us to deal with a situation for a LONG time! Just ask the apostle, Paul!)

Or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.   That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10

But, in all honesty, God DOES heal people and relationships! His healing can be spiritual, physical, emotional, and relational. Yahweh Rophe is The LORD our Healer. Rophe means to mend, heal, make whole. One way that God provided for healing for His people was that He provided instructions that prevented illness. The book of Leviticus is full of rules designed to keep God’s people healthy. Many of these rules are no longer necessary, because we have developed ways to cook and preserve food so that it doesn’t make us sick. We have come up with ways to address issues with our skin, so that we don’t infect others and our own body heals. (There are other things that make some of the other rules unnecessary, too!)

How many times have I heard that God healed someone and yet wondered why God didn’t heal me or heal my mom? I need to remember that God’s ways are not mine. I can trust Him, even when I can’t see what He is doing.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “

Isaiah 55:8-9

Yahweh Rophe is only found once in the Old Testament in Exodus, but the word Rophe is found more than 70 times! Just like these other names for God, His acts are found throughout Scripture, even if His name is not “associated” with it. Psalm 103:3 and 147:3 talk about God’s ability to heal, along with many other verses. Jesus is also associated with being a Healer. He did many miracles of Healing while He walked on this earth. I think one of the best verses that point to His healing (physically and spiritually) is Mark 2:17:

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Mark 2:17

The many counts of Jesus’ healing, encourages me. I know that He can heal me from all of the trauma that I have experienced and He can heal you too! But, we also must remember what Paul said. There may be some things that God allows us to deal with so that we can minister to others. I know that everything that I have been through has opened doors for me to share God that I wouldn’t have without the struggles. It is painful, there is no doubt about that. But God is so much bigger than the bad things that have happened to us. These things do not make God “happy”. In fact, it makes Him very sad to see how His creation is being treated. But He allows us to go through things for way bigger purposes than we can ever imagine. He CAN and WILL heal you! There is a newer song on the radio, I am not sure I truly like it. LOL! But, the concept is very important! The video is pretty cheesy, but listen to the words!

Did He move every mountain?
Did He part every sea?
Yes, He did
So yes, He can, oh
Did He defeat the darkness?
Did He deliver me?
Yes, He did
So yes, He can
